Private hospital discharge

When you are fit to be discharged from hospital your nurse will discuss what medication you may have been prescribed to take home and will see to it that this is issued to you from the pharmacy.

It is worth mentioning that take-home drugs are not reimbursed by insurance companies and it is our normal practice to prescribe only enough to see you through until you can have some more prescribed by your GP.

If you have had a general anaesthetic you must not attempt to drive home and indeed you should always ask your nurse how long you need to wait before doing so.

The hospital will send a discharge letter to your GP or very often will give you a discharge summary to take to your GP.

Meanwhile your surgeon will have written to your GP giving details of the operation performed.
