Simona Di Caro is a Consultant Gastroenterologist at UCLH. She has an expertise in Nutrition, Intestinal Failure (i.e Short Bowel Syndrome), Coeliac disease, Inflammatory Bowel disease, Irritable bowel syndrome, Gastrointestinal Consequences of Cancer and its Treatment (i.e. Radiation Enteropathy). She also sees patients with general gastroenterology problems and runs target/cancer clinics. She has an interest in Endoscopy.
She trained as an MD at the Catholic University of Rome, Italy where she also completed her Gastroenterology training. She then was a post-doctoral fellow for 2 years at UPMC, Pittsburgh, USA where she was awarded the HFSP fellowship and worked on identification of new target genes for diagnosis/treatment of colorectal and gastric cancer using DNA Microarray Analysis. She completed her PhD in Nutrition at the University of Tor Vergata, Rome, Italy. At UCLH she was awarded the UCLH Fast Track Grant for her research. She has a particular interest in research and is a Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL.
