Mr Zahid Mukhtar is the head of department and Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at St George’s University Hospital, London. He qualified from St Bartholomew’s Medical College in 1995. Trained in London, he completed his Paediatric Surgery residency at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
His special interests include Paediatric Trauma, minimally invasive paediatric surgery, children’s cancer surgery and Global Health. A fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, he is also honorary senior lecturer in the department of Trauma, Conflict and Catastrophe at St George’s, University of London. He is clinical director of the international charity Health Partnership Nepal and has extensive experience of working as a surgeon in austere and challenging environments.
An expert laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgeon, Mr Mukhtar is one of a handful of surgeons who perform keyhole surgery in newborn babies and with his team holds the record for the youngest child worldwide to have had a laparoscopic appendectomy for acute appendicitis.
