What you should know about fixed price surgery

We would draw your attention to the following terms and conditions relating to Fixed Price Surgery at New Victoria Hospital and to the details of what is included in or excluded from the cost of your treatment.

Terms and conditions

We ask that you pay in full for your procedure or treatment prior to your admission; and we reserve the right to cancel or postpone your admission if you do not do so.

We will give you a full refund if you cancel your surgery before your admission. However, if you decide not to proceed with your operation after you have been admitted, we will charge you for any services that you have received and net these off against your original payment before making your refund.

We reserve the right to amend our prices or to refuse you treatment at a fixed price if we have concerns, or the results of any pre-operative assessment suggest, that your general medical conditions might result in complications that would make a fixed price inappropriate.

The length of your stay in hospital will be determined by your consultant. We will make no additional charge if, due to a recognized complication of your surgery, you need to stay for longer than originally expected. However you will not be entitled to a refund if you are discharged earlier than expected. We will also make additional charges for your convalescence if you decide to stay in hospital for longer than is determined necessary by your consultant.

What is included in your fixed price

Unless you are advised otherwise, your fixed price will include the following:

  • Your accommodation, nursing care, drugs and dressings, and theatre and all other clinical facilities and services provided to you by the hospital during your stay.
  • Fees of your Consultant and Consultant anaesthetist for the services provided by them during your hospital stay.
  • 72 hours’ worth of drugs and medications to take home for use after your discharge.

What is not included in your fixed price

Unless you are advised otherwise your fixed price will not include the following:

  • All visits to your consultant before your admission or after your discharge.
  • Hospital treatment, supplies and diagnostic tests provided before your admission or after your discharge including X-rays, scans, blood and other pathology tests, and physiotherapy as well as specialist equipment such as crutches and braces provided at the time of your discharge to aid your subsequent recovery.
  • Any diagnostic tests required specifically to assess your suitability for surgery prior to your admission.
  • Hotel charges and extras such as telephone calls and meals for visitors: we will ask you to settle these at the time of your discharge.
  • Accommodation for a parent accompanying a child.
  • Ambulance and other transport to and from the hospital.

Prostheses

Where the cost of prostheses, such as artificial hips and knees, are not included in the fixed price, we can provide an estimate of their likely cost prior to your admission.
