New Victoria Hospital is a charity-owned private hospital in south west London. We are one of the few remaining independent hospitals in the country.

We are looking for a Senior Fellow in Male Genital Gender Affirmation Surgery to join the team, to assist with providing masculinising surgical treatment for patients with gender dysphoria. The Hospital has been commissioned by NHS England to off this service.

The role will initially be a 12 month contract and there is not an on call requirement.


Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join this service to help deliver exceptional urological surgical care to patients having gender affirming surgery. Candidates must be committed to the delivery of trans-inclusive care and be sensitive to the unique needs of this patient group. The successful candidate will be involved in the preoperative and postoperative care of this patient group, as well as the surgery itself. They will be expected to substantially contribute to the development of the service, and audit/research within the programme.

Further expectations include, but are not limited to: 

  • Attend outpatient clinics, diagnostic procedures and theatre lists to support the service
  • Attendance at Gender Affirmation Surgery MDT meetings
  • Participation in audit and governance activities of the service
  • Ensure compliance with national commissioning standards and waiting time targets
  • Support subspecialisation in the department by appropriate cross referral to colleagues
  • Provide consultant care at an early stage to patients presenting to secondary care with presumed urological problems
  • Contribute to the care of gender surgery inpatients following masculinising procedures
  • Engage in the education of other junior doctors, nursing staff and other colleagues


  • GMC license to practice
  • MBBS/MRCS/IMRCS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Higher Qualifications in Urology is desirable
  • Substantial Urology surgery experience
  • Recognised skill/ability to lead, decide and operate independently
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge & judgement & prioritise clinical need
  • Awareness of transgender health issues and sensitivities of the role
  • Capacity to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and demonstrate leadership when appropriate
  • Experience in leading impactful change projects and quality improvement programmes is desirable
  • Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management & evidence-based practice
  • Understanding of basic research principles, methodology & ethics, with potential to contribute to research
  • Evidence of contributing to teaching and learning of others
  • Evidence of active participation in audit is desirable


Fixed Term Contract - Initially for 12 months
