Biography

Dr Sarah Clark is a highly experienced consultant gastroenterologist and hepatologist who specialises in diseases of the gastro-intestinal tract and liver, Dr Clark working as an NHS consultant at St George’s Hospital in Tooting since 2003 and privately at the New Victoria Hospital since 2006. Her medical expertise spans all areas of general gastroenterology, hepatology and hepatobiliary medicine, including the pancreas and bile ducts, with a special focus on liver-related conditions, including abnormal liver tests, fatty liver, alcohol related liver disease, viral hepatitis and cirrhosis.

Dr Clark studied for her medical degree in Nottingham, qualifying in 1991, and then undertook specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology in South London. Dr Clark undertook a period of research during her training, successfully obtaining a doctorate of medicine, Dr Clark investigating insulin resistance in acute liver failure at Kings Liver Unit, primarily working in the Liver Intensive Care Unit.

Dr Clark is skilled in both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy, Dr Clark having a particular interest in Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and cholangioscopy (spyglass examination of the bile ducts). She is an invited trainer on endoscopy courses at St George's Hospital, leading regional training courses in endoscopy, the endoscopy unit at St George’s Hospital being a nationally JAG accredited endoscopy training unit.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Clark is passionate about education and training and was previously Training Programme Director for Gastroenterology and Hepatology for South London. In 2023 Dr Clark was awarded the British Society of Gastroenterology Dame Parveen Kumar Training Award for her achievements and work as a trainer in gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy. Dr Clark is currently departmental lead for gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy at St George’s Hospital.

Dr Clark is a member of the Royal College of Physicians and the British Association for the Study of the Liver, reflecting her commitment to maintaining the highest standards in patient care and ensuring her clinical knowledge  in the field of gastroenterology and hepatology remains up to date.
