Biography
Dr Vishal Jayakar is a Consultant Haematologist at New Victoria Hospital. His NHS base is Kingston Hospital, where he is a senior consultant haematologist and leads on the haemato-oncology and transfusion services. He is a prolific speaker and educator with academic teaching appointments at Kings College and Imperial College, London. He has been invited as a speaker on several international workshops including Switzerland, Rome, Oman, Kuwait, Jamaica, India and Sri Lanka.
He is adept in treating all malignant and benign haematological conditions, including lymphoma, myeloma, leukaemia, red cell disorders, and thrombosis.
Dr Jayakar completed his medical education and postgraduate training at the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital in Mumbai, India, with seven distinctions. He gained further experience at University College Hospital and the Royal Marsden in London, acquiring his MRCP qualification in 2004. His specialist haematology training was completed at the Imperial College NHS Trust, which includes Hammersmith, St Mary’s, and Royal Free Hospitals, and he acquired his FRCPath in haematology in 2008.
Dr Jayakar is a senior lecturer at Imperial College London and lead for education and training at King’s College London. He is passionate about teaching and runs the popular FRCPath courses, which have been attended by senior haematology trainees in the UK and Ireland since 2012. He is the co-organiser and primary tutor of Imperial College London’s haematology courses alongside Professor Barbara Bain. He has delivered teaching workshops and invited lectures in Europe, UAE, Singapore, India, and Sri-Lanka, in addition to the UK and Ireland.
