Mr Edward Matthews is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip replacement, complex trauma and limb reconstruction. He treats adults with painful, worn or failing hip joints, as well as the more difficult end of joint replacement work – revision surgery, fractures around existing implants, and infection following fracture fixation or joint replacement.

He qualified in medicine at the University of Leicester in 2009, graduating with Honours, and completed higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the South West Peninsula Deanery, gaining his FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2018. He then undertook two post-CCT fellowships: the first at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in major and complex periarticular trauma, including circular frame reconstruction and rib fracture fixation; the second at St George's University Hospitals NHS Trust in complex primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, with a particular focus on bone loss, periprosthetic fracture and prosthetic joint infection.

He was appointed a substantive Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in 2023, having previously held locum consultant posts at the Trust's Major Trauma Centre. Based at St Mary's and Charing Cross Hospitals, he runs elective hip lists, orthoplastic lists for infection and trauma, and trauma lists, contributes to the weekly hip multidisciplinary team meeting, and provides sub-specialist advice on chest wall injury on the Major Trauma Consultant of the Week rota.
