Biography
Mr William James White is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon at the world renowned Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT). His practice encompasses all aspects of shoulder and elbow surgery including arthroscopy, arthroplasty and and upper limb trauma (shoulder/elbow/wrist). He has a reputation as a thorough clinician, effective communicator and skilled surgeon. Through joint decision-making with the patient and utilising non-operative techniques where possible, he achieves the best possible outcomes for patients. When surgery is required, James has excellent outcomes based on his precise and prepared approach to operating, rejecting a one-fit-all approach.
James qualified in 2007 from University College London (UCL) Medical School, He was awarded a 1st class degree with honours for his work in Human Genetics during his training at UCL
He completed his higher surgical training on the Northwest London Programme in Trauma and Orthopaedics. James furthered his orthopaedic excellence with sub-specialty shoulder and elbow fellowships at GSTT and a further year at the renowned Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter. He was subsequently appointed as a Consultant at GSTT in 2019.
At GSTT James Leads the Upper limb trauma for a large central London Region. GSTT have recently been appointed as the South London Elbow Hub for complex tertiary referrals. He is the Royal College of Surgeons of England Surgical Tutor for the trainees in surgery at GSTT. He is keen to continue his interest in education and teaching, for which he has an advanced certificate in medical education.
James has a significant publication history with numerous publications in medical journals and has presented his work internationally. He has also co-authored several book chapters focusing on upper limb surgery and has contributed to the development of National Guidelines for distal radius fracture treatment for the British Orthopaedic Association. He has been awarded prestigious prizes for his work.
Away from work, James enjoys spending time with his young family, living locally to New Victoria Hospital and is a keen sports fan. Rugby and racquet sports are his passions.
