Dr Eva Papakonstantinou is a Consultant Gynaecologist with a specialist interest in endometriosis and advanced minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. She has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of endometriosis and complex benign gynaecological conditions, with a particular focus on providing individualised, evidence-based care.
Dr Papakonstantinou graduated in Medicine in Athens, Greece, and subsequently completed specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, gaining broad experience across acute and general gynaecology, early pregnancy and benign gynaecological surgery.
She developed a particular interest in endometriosis and advanced laparoscopic surgery through dedicated fellowship training and consultant practice in specialist centres.
She has worked in a number of leading London and UK hospitals, including Croydon University Hospital, St George's Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust, Frimley Park Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital, developing expertise in complex benign gynaecology, endometriosis and minimally invasive surgery.
She is currently a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Croydon University Hospital's BSGE-accredited Endometriosis Centre, where her clinical practice has a particular focus on endometriosis.
Her postgraduate academic training includes an MSc in Female Reproduction from the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens, awarded with an excellent overall grade. Her research focused on immunohistochemical markers in endometriosis, investigating angiogenetic markers including VEGF, VEGFR-1, VEGFR-2, CD10, vimentin and calretinin.
Dr Papakonstantinou has undertaken extensive specialist training in minimally invasive surgery, and she is recognised as a Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgeon by GESEA, BSGE, ESGE, ESHRE and SERGS.
Her clinical interests include endometriosis, pelvic pain, complex endometriosis, advanced laparoscopic surgery, minimally invasive gynaecological surgery, ovarian cysts, fibroids and other benign gynaecological conditions. She also has experience in early pregnancy assessment and ultrasound.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Papakonstantinou has a strong interest in medical education and surgical training. She has been involved with the BSGE RIGS programme and has contributed to the development of regional laparoscopic training. She has also organised and delivered practical teaching in laparoscopic gynaecological surgery and ultrasound simulation, supporting the development of minimally invasive surgical skills among trainees and colleagues.
Her approach to patient care is centred on careful assessment, accurate diagnosis and shared decision-making, with an emphasis on understanding each patient's symptoms, concerns and individual circumstances. In the management of endometriosis, she recognises the importance of considering both the extent of disease and its impact on quality of life when discussing treatment options.
Her private practice is limited to gynaecology, with no obstetric component, and is focused particularly on endometriosis and advanced benign gynaecological care.
