Biography
Sala Abdalla is a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon based in London. Her NHS practice is at the London North West University Healthcare Trust. She treats a wide range of surgical diseases, with a focus on the biliary and upper gastrointestinal systems. She specialises in laparoscopic/minimally invasive 'keyhole' surgery; emergency general surgery; all types of hernia surgery including complex abdominal hernias requiring abdominal wall reconstruction; gallbladder surgery including the provision of intra-operative cholangiography; surgery for reflux disease and diagnostic gastroscopies.
She graduated from Imperial College, London, and completed her specialist surgical training in London. She is a member of the Association of Upper GI Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (AUGIS), the British Benign Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery Society (BBUGGS), the British Hernia Society, the European Hernia Society, the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (ALSGBI) and the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES).
She is an advocate for women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and has made significant contributions to medical education. She is faculty on several Royal College of Surgeons accredited courses and is the author of numerous publications in the field of surgery, including two textbooks.
She has a passion for humanitarian work and is Director of a surgical charity that performs lifesaving and function-restoring operations in underserved communities around the globe.
