CT (Computed Tomography) scans are an advanced form of diagnostic imaging that provide highly detailed cross-sectional images of the body. These images allow Consultants to assess organs, bones, and blood vessels with exceptional clarity, helping to diagnose and monitor a wide range of medical conditions.

At New Victoria Hospital, our private CT scans are carried out using a state-of-the-art 128-slice scanner, designed to deliver outstanding image quality with minimal radiation exposure. Whether you need urgent imaging or a scheduled scan, our patients benefit from quick access, expert interpretation, and exceptional care in one of the leading CT scan hospitals in the UK.

Our team of experienced Radiologists are dedicated to providing high-quality, personalised care. For patients seeking a reliable CT scan in London, we offer a seamless and supportive service from referral to diagnosis.

What Is a CT Scan?

A CT scan is a painless and non-invasive procedure that uses a series of X-rays and computer technology to create detailed images of structures inside the body. These images are far more precise than standard X-rays and are essential for diagnosing a wide range of conditions.

A private CT scan may be recommended to:

  • Detect internal injuries or bleeding

  • Identify tumours, infections, or inflammation

  • Assess organs such as the brain, lungs, liver, kidneys, heart or pelvis

  • Examine bone structures or complex fractures

  • Investigate blood vessels and circulatory conditions

  • Guide treatment plans or surgical procedures

Scans usually take between 10 and 30 minutes. Depending on the type of CT scan, you may be given a contrast agent to improve the quality of the images. CT scans are a procedure performed following a referral from your GP or Consultant.

Common Reasons for a CT Scan

A CT scan may be requested by your Consultant to investigate a specific symptom or monitor an existing condition. Some of the most common reasons include:

  • Persistent headaches or dizziness – to check for neurological concerns such as brain bleeds or tumours

  • Chest pain or breathing difficulties – to assess the heart and lungs

  • Unexplained abdominal pain – to identify gallstones, kidney stones or inflammation

  • Injury or trauma – to evaluate internal damage following an accident

  • Weight loss or fatigue – where imaging can help detect hidden abnormalities

  • Suspected stroke or blood clots – requiring urgent visualisation of the brain and blood vessels

  • Cancer diagnosis or treatment planning – to locate tumours or assess spread

  • Post-operative monitoring – to track healing or detect complications

A private CT scan ensures timely investigation and clarity in your diagnosis, helping your Consultant make informed decisions about your care.

What To Expect During Your Scan

When you arrive at New Victoria Hospital for your CT scan, our Imaging team will explain the process clearly and ensure you are comfortable. You may be asked to change into a gown and remove any jewelry or metal objects.

During the scan, you will lie on a motorised table that moves through the scanner. The procedure is painless, and you will be able to speak with the Radiographer at all times. If a contrast agent is required, it will be administered as an injection or oral solution. You will be monitored briefly afterwards before returning home.

As one of the most highly rated CT scan hospitals in London, New Victoria Hospital prioritises safety, efficiency and patient reassurance at every stage of your visit.

Recovery and Results

Patients can return to their usual routine immediately after a CT scan. If contrast agent was used, you may be advised to drink plenty of fluids to help clear it from your system.

Your scan will be reviewed by a Consultant Radiologist, and the results will be sent to your referring doctor promptly. If further treatment or investigations are needed, your Consultant will guide you through the next steps.
