Preparation Instructions
No preparation is needed for X-rays – you may eat and drink as normal. Upon arrival, you may be asked to change into a gown.
What is an X-ray?
An X-ray is an effective way to look at bones and lungs, and can be useful in detecting several conditions. During the X-ray, you will be positioned by the Radiographer and asked to stay still whilst the X-ray is being taken.
Radiation information
We are all subject to natural radiation from the atmosphere on a daily basis. An X-ray produces approximately that which we receive from the atmosphere over 2–3 days. The amount of radiation is kept to a minimum, and the risk of exposure is weighed against the benefit of having the examination. Patients who are or might be pregnant must inform a member of staff. If you have any questions regarding this, please speak to your Radiographer.
When will the X-ray be reported?
Your X-ray will be reported by a Consultant Radiologist and issued to your referring Consultant/GP standardly within 48 hours.
