We are looking for a Surgical First Assistant (SFA) to join our Bank Theatres Team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected hospital and work within a supportive and skilled multidisciplinary theatre team.

The ideal candidate will be motivated, professional, and committed to delivering the highest standards of perioperative care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • To assist consultants in theatre as a Surgical First Assistant, working across a variety of surgical specialties, including orthopaedics
  • To deliver safe, high‑quality perioperative care in accordance with New Victoria Hospital policies and relevant clinical guidelines
  • To maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with professional and legal standards
  • To contribute to a safe, efficient theatre environment and support theatre colleagues as part of a cohesive team
  • To demonstrate excellent communication, organisational ability and a commitment to best patient outcomes

Requirements

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of relevant clinical and professional standards
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Good IT literacy
  • Understanding of legal and professional practice requirements within perioperative care

Experience

  • Previous experience working as a Surgical First Assistant
  • Experience supporting consultant‑led procedures (including orthopaedics)

Qualifications

  • ODP Level 3 or Registered Nurse
  • SFA Qualification (essential)
  • HCPC Registration (for ODPs) or NMC Registration (for nurses)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
